As Hurricane Matthew makes its way to the Florida coast, Port Canaveral has been evacuated. For a real time update on all the sailings for the Disney Dream, Magic, and Fantasy cruise ships click here. The Walt Disney Travel Company released the following statement. “While we always strive to deliver magical cruise vacations, nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. We will continue to closely monitor Hurricane Matthew and provide updates as necessary.”
The Magic Kingdom has cancelled the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for October 6.
Guests staying at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campgrounds must leave the campsites by 11 AM on October 6. Disney is helping to relocate these guests into hotel rooms. Disney has also offered to transfer guests staying at the Polynesian Village Resort Bungalows and the Tree House Villas at Saratoga Springs Resort since those structures aren’t as sound.

Walt Disney World celebrated a lot of birthday’s this past Saturday. The Magic Kingdom opened 45 years ago on October 1 as did the Contemporary Resort and the Polynesian Village Resort. Epcot also celebrated its 34th birthday on the same day. There was an underwhelming celebration only lasting one day at the Magic Kingdom with one stage show and a few special treat options offered. However, they did release some exclusive merchandise that will be available to purchase through the end of the year. They also released a generous discount to their annual pass holders in honor of the celebration.
The Muppets made their first appearance in the Magic Kingdom in Liberty Square this weekend to debut their new segment “Great Moments in History.” As of right now two different tales are being told throughout the day. The Declaration of Independence and the story of Paul Revere. The shows have been well received in the parks and are drawing large crowds.
This Sunday is the last night to catch the Electrical Light Parade at the Magic Kingdom before it heads to Disneyland. As of now, they have not announced a parade to replace the Electrical Light Parade. Disney Parks Blog did a live stream of the parade last month. Here it is again in case you missed it. Goodbye ELP, you will be greatly missed.
For the first time, Disney is doing a test run for a princess meet and greet at Disney Springs inside the World of Disney store. Disney has never before offered a meet and greet of a character outside of the theme parks. The test is running from October 1 through November 1. Hopefully, it will be successful; it would be nice to allow guests the opportunity to meet a character on a day they are not visiting a theme park.
A slightly more complicated route for guests using Disney transportation to get to Typhoon Lagoon is now in place. Guests must now take a bus from their resort to Disney Springs and transfer to a different bus going to Typhoon Lagoon from there. This will be a lot harder for those traveling with an ECV, or wheelchair since there is only room for two of these chairs on the bus at a time. If you can call a cab, that’s going to be your best bet to get there smoothly.
