“Hiya Pal!”

Disneyland will be celebrating its 61st birthday on July 17th. Don’t worry if you didn’t make it out for the Diamond anniversary Celebration yet. There is still time! Only a Disney Park can get away with a 16-month birthday celebration. You can enjoy all the festivities through September 5, 2016. Here are some of the Diamond Anniversary can’t-miss experiences.

Disneyland

The “Disneyland Forever” fireworks made their début May 2015 in honor of the 60th celebration. The Imagineers behind this spectacular display out did themselves with video projections playing on different iconic attractions throughout the park. The images are the same, only edited to fit the different facades allowing for a unique experience at each location listed below.

  • Main Street, U.S.A. From this vantage point, you’re immersed in all the action. You will see all the projections on the buildings surrounding you. On main street closer to the hub, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle will be part of your view. If you are closer to the park entrance, you will not see the castle.
  • Sleeping Beauty’s Castle This area allows you to take in the opening scene telling the story of how Disneyland came to be. Look to your right for a different view of the projections on the Matterhorn Bobsleds.
  • It’s a Small World This is a great option to see the fireworks. You will miss a few of the pyrotechnics taking place in front of the castle, but the Small World Facade is a fantastic view on its own with crisp, clear, bright projections, and fascinating fireworks just above. A spot in this area would also be perfect for the “Paint the Night” Parade.
  • Rivers Of America Although this area is under construction for the new Star Wars expansion you can still see the projections and fireworks from this spot. Securing an area on the bridge that runs over Pirates of the Caribbean would offer an excellent elevated, unobstructed view.
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds This is an entirely different viewing area. Unfortunately, due to the bumpy landscape, the images are not as sharp as they are on the other attractions.

“Paint the Night” is Disneyland’s latest nighttime parade that made its sparkling debuted May 2015 and is in my opinion, one of the best Disney shows of all time, it may have even surpassed my previous favorite, “Mickey’s Boo to You!” Halloween parade. The luminescent world of our beloved Disney and Disney Pixar characters comes to life with 1.5 million LED lights. This brilliant display also features an incredibly catchy tune “When Can I See You Again?” by Owl City from the Wreck-It Ralph soundtrack. The song is a perfect fit, you feel like you are at the best party ever, it is so fun and entertaining.

Attractions were recently updated at the park as well. The infamous Hat Box Ghost has made its updated return to the Haunted Mansion. Special effects have been added to the London and Neverland scenes on Peter Pan’s Flight, along with new animatronics of Wendy, John, and Michael in the nursery scene.  The Matterhorn Bobsleds has been refurbished adding new animatronics and special effects. The newest version of the Abominable Snowman is a bit more frightening than the previous.

Disney’s California Adventure {DCA}

The “World of Color Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney” Was introduced as part of the 60th Anniversary Celebration. Hosted by Niel Patrick Harris, and Mickey Mouse it is dedicated to the legacy of Walt Disney featuring his achievements and milestones. Images of over fifty characters from films, animated shorts, and television series make an appearance on the impressive 380-foot mist screen. This incredible water show is the perfect ending to a day spent at DCA.

Disney Extras

There are countless drink options served in collectible cups that include glowing “diamond” ice cubes in both parks. Quite a few adult-Diamond Cocktails available at California Adventure, and non-alcoholic available in both parks. Several souvenir popcorn buckets are serving up the delicious and buttery snack. You can find specialty desserts including the stunning Disneyland Diamond Celebration Cupcake at the Jolly Holiday Bakery.

Over twenty collectible pins have been released featuring new and classic rides and characters. There is plenty of apparel and souvenirs in shops throughout the park. Some exclusive artwork and collectibles have been made available to buy as well.

It is still unclear if any or all the added entertainment will be replaced when the party is over in September. I suggest heading out there ASAP, so you don’t miss out on all the fun. You can never go wrong with a vacation to Disneyland Resort. Join me next week as I offer more insight and tips for families on a Disneyland vacation. I’d like to thank Mary Lou Liebau for the use of the image below showcasing the adored “Partners” and the gorgeous cover photo of Sleeping Beauty’s castle glistening with diamonds.
